The Jumpsuit Affair

Hello Loves!!

MG_9889-806x1024

I’m Super Excited to be back! and with very exciting news! my childhood friend is getting married!!!!!!! Okay I need to contain my excitement before I fill the post with exclamation marks!!!

So this is me all packed up and ready to go on vacation Last christmas, before I get a text message from a long lost friend inviting me to her ‘ngurariyo’ (traditional wedding). I immediately rushed down to the living room and summoned my parents like there was a fire in my room, just to tell them Mumbi is getting married. I thought my reaction was epic but dad was the show stopper, he stood up and did a nursery dance we used to do in school, as he sang our then favourite rhyme…actually this was what he said ‘You mean Mumbi, The one and only, he sang, ‘how does a caterpillar grow…..’, Mumbi! I was like yes!!! I’m not to sure you get it yet,

So Loves, let me explain to you why the excitement!

First and foremost, Mumbi was the only friend whom my parents trusted enough to allow me to go for playdates with, At her place! Trust me that’s a big deal for African Parents.

Secondly, during Mumbi’s classroom birthday party, she regularly chose me to cut her cake! loves at my age then you would concur, if that isn’t signature for, you are my soul sister! I wonder what was!!

Thirdly, Mumbi knew I had allergies. You friends who are busy think oh yeah we all know you have sinuses, I mean I had real allergies that made me feel left out. I was allergic to any kind of protein, including the birthday cake I would cut!! Her mum made sure they had some candy to distract me from eating it or they had to hide it!

Fourthly, She is the only friend allowed to call me Betty! a name known to family only.

I mean the list is just too long and clearly I’m being carried away to talk more on my excitement than on my outfit and that’s exactly what happened. I got carried away in my excitement explaining to everyone I met while on vacation how I can’t afford to miss my flight home because my childhood friend is getting married and this whole childhood friend story telling, would begin such that I ended up forgetting to get an outfit. Yup, miss Amor the fashionista had nothing to wear.

My childhood friends’ traditional wedding (ngurariryo)/dinner and I had nothing to wear!!! Then I came across my tribal print jumpsuit that I had bought during my vacation and that’s how the jumpsuit saved the day.

I Know you are all wondering,’how did she wear a jumpsuit to a traditional wedding!’, well in my defence, it was more like a late lunch and evening cocktail so it worked for the occasion, plus I doned a hat while the sun was still up to give it that ‘edge’ The surprising part of it all was how everyone fell in love with it. It’s amazing how, what I bought to be wearing during my casual weekends turned out to be a fashion statement. Ever since my jumpsuit affair has never stopped!

My advise if you don’t own that jumpsuit, you better get one!!! It’s the ultimate life saver 🙂
